Rubjerg Knude Lighthouse
Løkken, North Denmark Region, Denmark
In December 1900 the new lighthouse was inaugurated behind a then two meter (6.56 feet) high dune. But from about 1910 the wind blew much sand upon that dune so that it increased to a high of about 50 m (164.04 feet) hiding at first the lighthouse and the four buildings attached to it. All attempts to stop the sand from moving failed and later on the sand burried the buildings except for the lighthouse.
