Embalse del Conde de Guadalhorce near Ardales

Ardales, Andalucía, Spain The Embalse del Conde de Guadalhorce is one of the three artificial lakes that were constructed by damming the Río Turón and the Río Gualdalteba to have a reservoir of water to use for the citrus plantations further down the river. The construction of the Embalse del Conde de Guadalhorce started in the fall of 1914 under the direction of the engineer Rafael Benjumea and were completed in 1921 with the inaugugation of King Alfonso XIII. The reservoire was initially called Pantano del Chorro but renamed to Conde de Guadalhorce in 1953.
