Clingmans Dome, Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Swain, Clingmans Dome, North Carolina, United States of America Clingmans Dome is, with its 2024.78m (6,643 feet), highest point in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the highest point in Tennessee as well. Only Mount Mitchell with its 2037,28m and Mount Craig with its 2026m, in the Mount Mitchell State Park in North Carolina, rise higher east of the Mississippi. My friend, whom I was visiting at the time, took me to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park for a shorter visit, before my holidays with him came to an end. We had only about 1.5 days to visit the Smoky Mountains, so I am hoping to go back and see more of the beautiful places within the National Park on a future visit... When we arrived on top of Clingmans Dome to watch the sun set, it was covered in a big cloud and we wondered if we would be able to watch the setting sun at all that evening. Thankfully our calculations for the time of the sunset were slightly off as we had been thinking about it at sea level and in the Central timezone…but here we were on top of a mountain and in Eastern timezone, so what felt like 6p.m. to us was actually just 5p.m. and the cloud used the time well to lift off before the sun set.
