Bogstad Gård, Oslo, Oslo, Norway Chives - Allium schoenoprasum Stems to 50cm, smooth, hollow. Leaves to 35cm, cylindrical, hollow. Flowers purple, in dense, spherical umbel, 1.5-5cm across; spathe as long as or shorter than umbel; stamens not protruding. Habitat Rocky hill pastures, coastal grasslands, on limestone or basic igneous rocks; also widely naturalized as casual escape from cultivation on tips and roadsides. Distilled. Native. Rare and very scattered. Cornwall, North England, South Wales, Ireland (E Co. Mayo). (All Europe except S.)
