, Nordland, Norway Hare's-tail cottongrass - Eriophorum vaginatum Tussock-forming, rhizomatous perennial to 50cm. Stems Smooth, bluntly triangular. Leaves Narrow, bristle-like, 0.4-0.8 mm wide. Inflorescences Solitary, erect spikes; glumes 6-7 mm, 1-nerved; bristles 2-2.5 cm. Habitat Peaty moorland, peat bogs, wet heaths; to 945 m. Distribution Native. Upland areas of British Islands; often abundant. (N, NE and central Europe.)
