Dörverden, Niedersachsen, Germany Small Teasel - Dipsacus pilosus Erect, branched biennial to 150 cm. Stems Angled, with weak prickles. Leaves Basal leaves in a rosette, ovate, long-stalked; stem leaves short-stalked, upper with pair of basal leaflets. Flowers In spherical heads 2-2.5 cm; involucral bracts and bracts among florets spine-tipped with long silky hairs; corolla 6-9 mm, white. Habitat Damp woods, ditches, stream sides, hedge banks, especially on calcareous soils. Distribution Native. Rather local, scattered throughout England. (W and central Europe.)
