Toldboden - The custom house
Vesterbro, Aarhus, Aarhus, Central Denmark Region, Denmark The custom house (Toldboden) was build around 1750 in Aarhus and was used as a custom house from the 1760th until 1809. The house was originally placed some way up Aarhus Å (the river of Aarhus), because the habor at that time was placed there. Placing it down at the river bank was important because the ships could sail close to the wall of the house and moor their boats there when the customs officer was supposed to check their products. In 1809 the customs was moved to the current harbor at the mouth of the river and the house lost its original function. Rebuild as a custom house in Den Gamle By in 1938 with offices and weighbridges, where the customs officers would register and weigh the products. The buildings in the background are a merchant's house which was build as a large complex in Frederiksgade in Aarhus between 1723 and 1725 of the merchant Hans Buchtrup. uuid="475D809A-8CF5-43DD-B9BF-7CFBEE78D70C" id="Denmark lilleulven.com 20140718_144511_DK_Central Denmark Region_Aarhus_Toldboden - The custom house_www.LilleUlven.com.DNG Denmark Lilleulven.com"
