Tyske Bryggen - Hansequarters in Bergen

They brought the corn (wheat...) and, in return, were granted the monopoly on selling the dried codfish from northern Norway to the catholic south European countries. For some years, this helped save the Norwegians from starvation, yet it caused a misbalance and a far too high dependence. The German Hansesalesmen settled in this particular area, called Tyskebryggen or Bryggen, in the harbor of Bergen.
